Tools I love to move through work-related stress & anxiety

I have never met anyone who has a BIG career or business that hasn't gone through some form of stress and anxiety to get there. That's not to say that you have to experience that long-term - in fact, the opposite is true, because one of my core beliefs is that I ALWAYS come out the other side of stress and anxiety. The question is, how fast, and with how much ease? Today I want to share with you some of my favourite tools to support this.

Stress and anxiety can be by-products of getting out of our comfort zones. As we reach new levels, we also need to become new versions of ourselves that can handle and hold each new level of success (without sabotaging it for ourselves!). We need to move through limiting beliefs and past traumas (we all have them - small or big!).

I've experienced burnout, women's health issues, anxiety, stress and more along my career and business journey. But I feel like I'm in such an amazing place in my business with my new belief that feels really true to me right now: the more rested and relaxed I am, the more my business grows and the more I help others.

This hasn't happened by accident, and I didn't just wake up one day and feel this way.

It's been a really long process of trying different tools, techniques and methods to figure out what works uniquely for me. And what I've found to be true is that even though I want to sometimes attack a problem head on, such as growing my business so that it generates a specific revenue or landing consistent clients, often I've had to do the work AROUND the problem to get to the solution.

For example, instead of focusing solely on finding new clients in my business, I've had to do a lot of work on myself at the same time to be able to attract those new clients.

It's the same with growing my personal brand. The actions are required, but often what I also need to do at the same time is find the joy in the process, and take care of my health and mindset as a number one priority. Does this resonate?

If so, I'd love to share with you some of the resources I've loved over the years that have supported me on my journey - both paid and low cost / free.

  1. Therapy. I believe everyone would benefit from therapy. It's definitely a luxury, but if you can afford it, I'd recommend finding one that specialises in the field that you're looking to grow in or heal from and sticking with them for a while because the more deeply they know you, the more they can help you with insights and tools that you may otherwise never have known you needed. This is such a great starting place for all types of healing and moving through limiting beliefs and past traumas, and well worth the investment if you can.

  2. Insight Timer. If you can't afford therapy, or you want to start smaller, I love Insight Timer. A lot of the tools my therapist has shared with me, I've found in meditations and courses on Insight Timer. There's a free and a paid version, but even just the free version is awesome. You can go at your own pace, and select tools that resonate for you right now. There's also a meditation timer if you just want to sit for 5 or 10 mins and meditate, which will be a game-changer for you on its own.

  3. Energy healing. I've been getting more and more into energy healing this year after having some women's health issues with the aim of healing the root cause of the problems instead of constantly trying to patch things up with medical intervention (also important, but good to be used in combination with natural healing methods!). I highly recommend the book Energy Medicine for Women: Aligning Your Body's Energies to Boost Your Health and Vitality by Donna Eden. I wish I'd found this book years ago - there are so many practical tools to clear and align your energy to improve your health.

  4. Yoga with Adriene. A friend recently told me about the YouTube channel Yoga with Adriene as I've got a beautiful sunroom here in our new home in Newcastle, Australia to practice yoga in. It's such a beautiful way to start the day and best of all - it's FREE, and you can practice anywhere at your own pace. I find it helps to ground me and reduces stress and anxiety.

  5. Coaching. If you want to fast-track ANYTHING and learn from someone who has walked the path before you, get yourself a coach. I've had many coaches, including business coaches, money coaches, career coaches, an anxiety coach, and more... And I wouldn't be where I am today without them. I started off with free resources such as podcasts and books, then when I felt ready to invest, I started working with coaches. As my income increased as a result of this, I've invested again and again. Start small, but be consistent with both your time and money investments and you'll see results.

  6. Naturopathy. I have a wonderful naturopath, Belinda Kirkpatrick, who I've been working with for the past few years on my women's health issues. She is phenomenal and has been such a great support. I highly recommend finding a great naturopath who can help you to heal and get to the root cause of any health issues. They can also recommend supplements specifically tailored for you (rather than randomly ordering supplements online, like I used to do!). Again, it's a financial investment but if you are in a position to invest, it's the BEST and will pay off long term.

  7. Moving your body in a way that feels good. Aside from the obvious fitness and health benefits of exercise, energy needs to move through the body so it doesn't stay stuck and stagnant. I've learned to love exercise over the years but I really don't love the gym. I suggest focusing on doing exercise that you enjoy, then finding time to do it consistently. I am loving reformer pilates classes right now, then at-home yoga, walking and jogging outdoors, and swimming in the ocean pool. Find what you love, and practice most days! It's the best stress releaser out there. :)
