4 steps to bring more joy into your career or business
Hello. I'm Bec Sands, and I help you pivot to a career or business you love.
If you’re not where you want to be in your career or business right now, know that things can and will change. I believe that everyone deserves to feel purposeful, driven and fulfilled by the work that they do in the world.
If you’re not where you want to be right now, the first thing you can do is to bring more of the energy you want into your life in small ways. The bigger ways will follow.
Here’s how you can get started.
1. Start to do things that light you up.
The more that you can live in a space of joy, even if it’s not in your current role or business, the more you will start to align yourself with that feeling and bring even more of into your life.
Once you start to become accustomed to feeling good, you will want to begin to reduce the things that don’t feel good in your life and bring in more of what lights you up.
Start with something small. Take the art class you’ve been wanting to take. Spend time reading a fiction book in a genre that you love. Do whatever it is that brings you joy.
Then, slowly add to that until your life starts to become more full with the things that light you up than the things that drain your energy and make you feel empty.
2. If you can’t change it right now, change your mind about it.
Your thoughts and feelings create your reality. If you can’t change your circumstances right now, change the way you think about it.
This is not about lying to yourself, or repeating false affirmations. It is about looking towards what is positive rather than what is negative more often than not.
It’s about catching thoughts that make you feel down, and turning them into thoughts that make you feel better.
3. Be kind to yourself.
Berating yourself for feeling all of the emotions on the spectrum, or for thinking thoughts that you perceive as negative, will not support you.
Instead, accept the way that you feel (you are human, after all!) and gently, kindly, bring your thoughts back to something that will serve you more.
4. Identify a path forward.
What so many people do is expect to have a perfect plan all mapped out before getting started with changing their careers or starting a business.
The fact is, it’s messy. Whether you’re in a career or business, or changing careers or businesses, the path is never going to be linear.
No one has everything figured out before they begin. You learn and pivot along the way. The key is to start right now – before you’re ready.
Identify the path that feels the most right to you. That feels the most expansive, rather than closes you off. The path that gets you excited.
Then, take the first step TODAY. It doesn’t have to be perfect. The next step will appear once you’ve taken the first, and you’ll work it out as you go along.
Sending massive amounts of well wishes during this time. Take care of yourself.
